US House of Representatives Feb.24, 2010 Wednesday 10:00 am CSPAN Representative Anthony Weiner, Democrat representing the state of New York, USA. Health Care for Americans, Insurance Industry Bill is called HR4626 Removing Antitrust Exemption for Insurance Firms. HR4626 amends the 1945 McCarran-Ferguson Act. Democrats are in favor of Bill HR 4626 because it would make the medical insurance industry be subject to the same antitrust laws that all other American businesses have to follow. If it passes it means that both the federal and state governments of America can regulate the fees and rates customers are charged for health care. All Americans would benefit by having more affordable health care. The insurance companies oppose the bill because they want to be allowed to increase rates consumers pay, such as Anthem Health Care Company increasing their rates 39 percent this year in California, while they are making record profits American consumers are going without health care or going broke trying to pay the outrageous fee raises. Republicans are opposed to the bill because they have been getting money from the Insurance companies to block any effort at regulation. Democrat Nancy Pelosi of California, Democrat Peter DeFazio of Oregon, and Democrat John Garamendi, are also in favor of regulating the Insurance Industry so that American consumers will be able to afford health care.

You think we be a failing country if we keep having the government involved with our lives? First off we a Mixed Economy! More Capitalism than Socialism. Everything you apply for or businesses apply for and do has government help whether if its federal or state. SO IT IS GOVERNMENT INVOLVEMENT. So lets be smart as a people and let some form of Socialism take place in this government especially in health care because that is where it is most needed.
No because UPS and the other shipping companies respect their customers. Health insurance Ceos do not respect their customers. They get more money from denying coverage than giving it.
So the private companies stay in business because they are actually BETTER than the government. Wouldn't this same logic apply to health insurance companies? If the government competes and runs inefficiently and poor then everyone would still flock to the private companies. Nothing to worry about.

Even worse, it doesn’t address the real problem, health care costs. Medicare costs are increasing more slowly than the costs of private insurance. Ryan is throwing seniors to the high-cost corporations, which will increase total USA health care costs. Sure, it cuts costs to the gvt, but including the extra granny needs to pay leads to a net increase. Very nice for WellPoint etc, very bad for granny and the USA.

I am not condoning Anthony Weiner's actions because what he did in my mind is indefensible. However, I do like him as a politician because of what he fought for. I also know enough about him to say that he'll will be back on television soon because he is not an average politician and was a media savvy politician. Speeches like this one did not make him too many friends in Washington,so for that reason, he was ultimately forced out of office.
